My name is Mike Crowther. I have closely watched the way Government has been conducted in Canberra since I made this city my home in 1996. What I've seen has led me to conclude that there is no place for large political parties in what is essentially, a local government. The core business of local government should be the three 'R's.......Roads, Rubbish and Rates.

I believe that using our rates and charges to grandstand on international issues is an almost criminal waste of our money. We have a very well paid federal government to indulge in such behavior on our behalf. For a local Government to duplicate this 'service' in order to enhance their image borders on theft. I believe that the Canberra community will be better served by an assembly that consists of suitably experienced, but  independently minded individuals who are responsible first and foremost, to their electorates.  I believe that people are poorly served by any local government which is populated by party hacks, dominated by faceless party machines and the organisations that bankroll them.

The bald-face dishonesty and bullying tactics I have seen deployed against those who have stood up to this current Government have convinced me to run as a Community Alliance candidate for my home electorate of Ginninderra in the October 2008 ACT Legislative Assembly elections.

I hope that after reading my policy page, my beliefs will be quite clear.

Suggested template when dealing with the current Government

Those citizens and community groups needing to write to the current Government may find this opening phrase quite handy, as well as suitable for most situations......

“Once again we must note with considerable concern the totally unrealistic and indeed derisory time frame provided for what is misrepresented as a 'community consultation process'….”
